a professor from uchicago just emailed me personally about how excited the staff is to possibly meet me in february (and previous to this, a different professor emailed me with similar positivity). i didn’t even know i was accepted??? mix of confusion and excitement..

Aw thanks! Does your apt have a balcony? You can still do a lot with container gardening (surely peppers and tomatoes). If you don’t have a balcony, then just fill up the windowsills that get light with herbs! If you live up north, it would be much easier for you to grow lettuce, which is a completely viable option for container gardens. Right now, my garden has two drawers that i found on the side of the road with lettuce in them, and they love it (of course with holes drilled in the bottom). The only problem I have here in florida is that our spinach and romaine completely bolted because of the unusually warm temperatures we’ve had in the past month. So if you’re north, take advantage of the greens (but give them some shade and not full sun)!
